Working With Not For Profits (1 of 2)

A few weeks ago, I received a phone call from the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois. They were in the process of updating the graphics on the Kidney Mobile. Yes, that’s right…the Kidney Mobile! The catch was that the images needed to be shot the next day! It seems that the NKF had tried to shoot the images themselves, but the files weren’t hi quality enough to be reproduced so large (they will be living on the side of a truck). I assured them that I could produce files that would be sizable enough to be enlarged to GIANT size.

Having previously worked with not for profit organizations, I understood that the budget for this job was more or less zero dollars. I began making phone calls to put together a team. I can’t speak highly enough about the great people who work in this industry. Each phone call I made had a person on the line who was excited to work on the project for little to no money. The trick was, with such short notice, getting people who were available the next day. Everyone on the crew was happy to walk away with some test images and a few new contacts. I would also like to thank the folks at Dodd Camera who gave us a generous break on rental gear (we needed a 65 MP camera to get the required file size).

I really enjoy working with not for profits. I’ll be posting next week about another recent not for profit experience. Here are some images from the shoot as well as a few shots that the NKF sent me of the finished project. In the meantime, see if you can find the subliminal message about apples and doctors here.
